In this lesson, you will:
Identify the stages of the refugee journey
Examine parts of the stories of refugees and decide where they belong along the stages of the refugee journey
Compare and contrast individual experiences along the refugee journey
Reflect on why it might be important to both understand that there are commonalities among refugee experiences and that each refugee has his or her own individual story
Directions:
1. Watch the video all the way through one time.
2. Read through or watch the narrated video of the stages of the refugee journey.
3. Watch the video a second time. As you watch, decide which stage of the refugee journey each part of each person’s story falls along. You may choose to use the graphic organizer in the reflection journal to record your thoughts.
4. Compare and contrast the stories of each person in the video. In what ways and to what extent are the stories similar? Different? To what extent can we define certain parts of refugees’ experiences as universal and to what extent do we need to consider that each individual has a unique story?
